Double Deep Racking
“Double-deep racking is a high-density storage system that stores two pallets in each location, one behind the other. It consists of two rows of standard selective racks installed back-to-back, allowing for more storage capacity within the same footprint.”

Key Benefits
- Operated with Double Deep Forklifts
- Load capacity : 1-1.5 tons/level
- FILO Method: Operates on a “First-In, Last-Out” basis, meaning the front pallet must be removed to reach the back one.
Considerations
- Specialized Equipment: Requires a Deep-Reach Truck or a forklift with Telescopic Forks to access the second pallet.
- Reduced Accessibility: Only 50% of pallets are immediately accessible (selective). The front pallet must be moved to reach the back one.
- LIFO/FILO Management: Operates on a Last-In, First-Out basis, which may not be suitable for items with strict expiration dates.
- Operator Skill: Drivers need higher precision and training to handle pallets at a distance, especially at height.
- Slower Throughput: Loading and unloading may take longer compared to standard selective racking due to the double-handling of pallets.
Ideal For
- High-Volume, Low SKU: Best for businesses with a large number of pallets but fewer unique product types.
- Multiple Pallets per SKU: Ideal when you store at least two or more pallets of the same item, so they can be stored behind each other.
- Non-Perishable Goods: Suitable for products with a medium to long shelf life that don’t require strict FIFO (First-In, First-Out) rotation.
- Space-Constrained Facilities: Perfect for warehouses looking to increase storage density by 30-40% without expanding the building footprint.
- Cold Storage & Freezers: Highly effective in temperature-controlled environments where the cost of floor space and cooling is very high.
